Now lets look at moving much further along
the scale, enabling us to add a new sense of dynamic and contrast.
Look at the E minor pentatonic scale when it is played in the
4th position:
Spend some time simply playing up and down
the scale getting used to the position of the notes. In the 4th
position the scale is very close to the E minor barre chord, played
at the 7th fret. In this position we can add variation to our
improvising because the pitch is significantly different from
position 1 and the phrases that can be created here place emphasis
on different notes. Have a look at these phrases that I have created
in position 4:
Now spend some time coming up with your own
phrases in the new position.
