Now lets look at moving much further along the scale, enabling us to add a new sense of dynamic and contrast. Look at the E minor pentatonic scale when it is played in the 4th position:

Spend some time simply playing up and down the scale getting used to the position of the notes. In the 4th position the scale is very close to the E minor barre chord, played at the 7th fret. In this position we can add variation to our improvising because the pitch is significantly different from position 1 and the phrases that can be created here place emphasis on different notes. Have a look at these phrases that I have created in position 4:

Phrase 1 in Position 4
Phrase 2 in Position 4
Phrase 3 in Position 4

Now spend some time coming up with your own phrases in the new position.
